Elon Musk leaves DOGE with a black eye and key to Trump’s White House: ‘This is not the end’

The Department of Government Efficiency’s effort to cut waste and fraud from the federal budget is not over despite Friday being Elon Musk’s last day at the White House, the billionaire said as he compared DOGE to Buddhism.

“It’s like a way of life. It’s permeating throughout the government,” said Musk, who was serving his last day as a special government employee.

“This is not the end of DOGE but really the beginning,” Musk said as he and President Donald Trump addressed reporters in the Oval Office. “The DOGE team will only grow stronger.”

Musk, the world’s richest person, sported a bruise below his right eye during the event.

He jokingly referenced French First Lady Brigitte Macron shoving her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, in the face that some called a “slap” after being asked what caused the shiner.

“I wasn’t anywhere near France,” Musk said.

“I was just horsing around with Little X,” the billionaire said, referring to his 5-year-old son, “and I said ‘punch me in the face,’ and he did.”

Trump gave Musk a White House key to mark the end of his tenure.

The Tesla CEO and world’s richest person suggested he would be an informal counselor to Trump.

“I’ll continue to be visiting here and be a friend and an advisor to the president,” he said.

Musk said some DOGE members will continue working for the federal government as the department “relentlessly” pursues cutting $1 trillion in spending.

Trump credited Musk with facilitating the “most sweeping and consequential government reform program in generations.

“They found things that are pretty unbelievable,” the president said of DOGE.

Among the cuts, the president falsely claimed that the department slashed $8 million in funding on experiments to “make mice transgender,” repeating a line from his address to Congress earlier this year.

“None of the studies … were specifically focused on ‘making mice transgender,’ but rather on the health effects of hormones,” according to an NBC News fact check.
