250,000 of beef stew recalled over possible wood contamination
More than 250,000 pounds of Hormel canned beef stew have been recalled over concerns they could be contaminated with wood, according to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The canned beef stew was produced Feb. 5. According to the announcement from the UDSA, the recalled products are packaged in 20-ounce cans, have a “FEB 2028” best by date, a lot code “T02045” and an establishment number “EST 199G” printed on the can.
There have been no confirmed injury reports linked to the products but anyone with concerns should contact their healthcare provider.
According to the FSIS statement, the problem was discovered after Hormel received three consumer complaints reporting pieces of wood in the packages. The product may still be in people’s pantries but USDA said it should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
