5 Montgomery teens nabbed after CVS thefts, police chase on I-85
Five Montgomery teens were arrested in Auburn after a police chase that caused multiple crashes and damaged police vehicles.
The ordeal began Wednesday night when Auburn police received theft reports from two businesses – one in the 700 block of East Glenn Avenue, and the other in the 200 block of South College Street.
The businesses, identified in court records as separate CVS stores, provided similar descriptions of the suspects.
A short time later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle traveling in the 300 block of North Donahue Drive.
When police attempted a traffic stop, “the vehicle fled recklessly, causing multiple collisions and damaging police vehicles,” police said.
The chase ended on Interstate 85 near mile marker 31. All five teens inside were taken into custody and later confirmed to be the group involved in the business thefts, police said.
Those charged are with first-degree theft are: Brooklyn Janae Denson, 19, Char’Myia Quan’Dashia Rena Mitchell, 19, Tyrese Smith, 18, a 17-year-old juvenile and a 16-year-old juvenile.
Mitchell was also charged with obstruction of justice using a false identity, and Denson was charged with obstructing justice using a false identity and felony attempting to elude.
Denson, Mitchell and Smith were booked into the Lee County Jail.
The juveniles were released to authorized adults at the request of the Lee County Juvenile Intake Office.
