As ESPN is preparing to broadcast College GameDay from Auburn ahead of the Tigers’ showdown with Alabama on Saturday, Rece Davis was working ahead.

On Friday, he had a little fun with Aubie, trying to convince the Auburn mascot to allow ESPN analyst Lee Corso to wear the Auburn headgear on his popular college football pregame show next fall.

As you can, Aubie wasn’t having it.

It has come up over the years that Auburn is the headgear Corso isn’t allowed to wear.

In fact, back in 2020, Corso said – in fun – that he was done picking the Tigers since he wasn’t allowed to use the headgear. When picking Auburn in the past, he would use a throwback, facemask-less helmet instead.

ESPN College GameDay producer Lee Fitting explained – back in 2015 – why Auburn doesn’t allow the gear to be worn on the broadcast.

“It’s like the War Eagle Club tradition that no one puts on the mascot, except for the kid who’s the mascot,” Fitting told AL.com in 2015. “It’s one of those things we respect and find other means – don the old-school leather football helmet and move on.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, ESPN’s flagship basketball pregame show will broadcast live from Neville Arena ahead of the highly anticipated rivalry showdown between Auburn and Alabama. The Tigers and Tide will square off at 1 p.m. at Neville Arena, with the game airing on ESPN.
