Alabama schools close, delay openings on May 21, 2025 due to severe weather
Some Alabama schools are adjusting their schedules for Wednesday after severe weather swept part of the state.
The northern portion of the state has been blanketed by severe storms with tornadoes, hail, and heavy winds all being reported.
In Athens, power lines were knocked down throughout the area as a result of the weather and lead the Athens City School system to announce changes for Wednesday.
Other schools that announce changes to their school schedule will be added as more information becomes available:
Athens City Schools – Closed on Wednesday for Pre-K through 5th grade; Athens High School and Athens Middle School will open after a three hour delay.
Blue Springs Elementary School – Closed Wednesday
Clements High School – Closed Wednesday
Huntsville City Schools – One hour delay Wednesday
Monte Sano Elementary School – Closed Wednesday
