Witnesses, clues sought in Sylacauga shooting that killed 48-year-old man

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects in a Sylacauga shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday, May 11.

Talladega County 911 received reports of shots fired in area of East Fifth Street, according to Central Alabama Crime Stoppers.

Two minutes later, dispatchers got a call of shots fired into a vehicle on Curran Street off North Broadway Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found two people wounded.

Christopher Cornell Keith, 48, of Childersburg, was taken to Coosa Valley Medical Center and then transferred to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he was pronounced dead.

Sylavonta Dvon Mays, 29, of Sylacauga, was treated at Coosa Valley for gunshot wounds and later released from the hospital.

Investigators determined the shooting happened at the intersection of North Louisville Avenue and East Fifth Street.
