Ex-FBI director says Trump surrounded by sycophants: ‘Four Seasons Total Landscaping all the way down’
Former FBI Director James Comey said Monday that the group of advisors President Donald Trump has surrounded himself with is “concerning,” using a press conference debacle from Trump’s first term to describe them.
“He has a very different crew. The last group had people who were flexible but had some institutionalist principles. They all ran into the hills, as you would expect, after Jan. 6. And now it’s Four Seasons Total Landscaping all the way down,” Comey told MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace.
Comey was referencing the Philadelphia landscaping business near a sex shop and crematorium where Trump personal attorney Rudolph Giuliani held a news conference shortly after the 2020 election outlining the Trump campaign’s fight against the election results.
The news conference was ostensibly meant to be held at a Four Seasons hotel.
Unlike Trump’s first term, according to Comey, “you don’t have people who are interested in standing up for institutional values. They work for the president, and that’s concerning.
“It’s actually shortsighted for a president to have people around him like that because he can’t look to an institution if the American people start worrying about a set of facts and say they’ll handle it in a fair way. Because he’s made clear now they’re all his people,” the former FBI director, who was fired by Trump shortly after the president began his first term, continued.
Comey’s MSNBC appearance came days after he was criticized by Trump supporters for posting a photo on his Instagram account of seashells that were arranged as “86 47.”
The supporters – and the president himself – claimed Comey’s post was a thinly veiled message to assassinate Trump.
Comey took down the post and apologized, saying he was not calling for violence against Trump and did not believe“86” had a violent connotation.
National Security Adviser Tulsi Gabbard called on Comey to be arrested.
The former FBI director didn’t take Gabbard’s plea seriously.
“I hope people know about that particular person that they understand where it’s coming from, It says something more depressing about the leadership of our current administration, and I just shrug because that’s ridiculous,” he said.
