Morgan Wallen’s Gulf Shores music festival ends with far fewer arrests than 2024’s Hangout Fest
Thousands of music fans traveled down to Gulf Shores this past weekend for the first ever Sand in My Boots music festival.
But some concertgoers had a little too much fun in the sun.
Thirty-seven people in total were arrested during the three-day festival, according to a report from the Gulf Shores Police Department.
While it was a busy weekend for local officers, Interim Police Chief Dan Netemeyer said it was less eventful than previous years.
“They [arrest numbers] are significantly lower that the arrest totals from the Hangout Music Festival held in years past,” he told AL.com Monday.
“The Gulf Shores Police Department is very grateful for the assistance provided by our law enforcement partners who helped us keep the Sand in my Boots Music Festival safe and enjoyable for all in 2025.”
Last year, Gulf Shores police and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department reported 94 arrests during Hangout Fest.
Possession of a controlled substance was the most frequent charge levied, with 78 arrests, including 68 by the BCSO, as AL.com reported previously.
Possession of marijuana and public intoxication were both a distant second with 12 arrests for each.

While last year’s top charge kept its first place slot, this year 26 individuals were charged with possession of a controlled substance by Gulf Shores police and the BCSO, according to the report.
Only one person was charged with possession of marijuana, and six with public intoxication.
In all, Gulf Shores police were responsible for 15 arrests, while Baldwin County accounted for 22.
Out of the total arrests, 20 were felonies. Males accounted for 78.4% of the arrests.
Roughly half of the arrests (18) occurred on the second day.
Organizers have presented Sand in My Boots as a one-year takeover of the Hangout Fest – but its effortless sellout is a feat that Hangout hasn’t matched in a long time, AL.com’s Lawrence Specker reports.
Before either one can return, organizers and Gulf Shores city leaders will have to come to terms on a new franchise agreement, as the old one expired with this year’s event.
“In the short term, the aftermath of Sand in My Boots will look much like the aftermath of a Hangout Fest: A rapid exodus of visitors, and a rapid teardown of the festival site in order to clear the way for the Memorial Day weekend,” Specker wrote.
Plans called for all of Gulf Shores’ public beaches and beach access points to reopen to the public by 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22.
