Man accused of raping 52-year-old woman at knifepoint in Tuscaloosa parking deck bathroom

A Tuscaloosa man is accused of sexually assaulting a 52-year-old woman in the bathroom of a downtown parking deck.

Wynton Qushawn Rice, 28, is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and second-degree assault, according to court records made public this week.

The victim told investigators she was in the restroom at the Tuscaloosa Transit Authority parking facility between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Saturday when a man armed with a knife broke into her bathroom stall.

She said the man – later identified as Rice – demanded sex and physically assaulted her, cutting one of her fingers.

She said he tried to rape her but was not successful because of the size of the stall.

He then made her move to the handicap stall where he raped her and then forced her to perform oral sex on him.

Charging documents against Rice said investigators pulled video footage that showed Rice entering the women’s bathroom at 4:02 a.m. and leaving 26 minutes later.

Detectives located and interviewed Rice at which time he gave varying stories, records state.

Rice said he’d never been at that location, then said he had gone in the bathroom but was run off by a woman who was in there, and finally said he was in there longer but had not had sex anyone and was just using the restroom.

Finally, the detective wrote, Rice said he encountered the woman who he knew only by a nickname and told her she could have all the money in his pocket if she would perform oral sex on him.

He said she did, and he gave her $3.

Rice was arrested on Sunday and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail. A judge on Wednesday set his bond at $100,000.
