Is Auburn football still looking in the transfer portal? Hugh Freeze gives an update

Roster building seemingly never stops in modern day college football, so Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze was reluctant to say definitively if the Tigers were done adding players in the transfer portal when speaking to reporters at the Regions Tradition celebrity pro-am Wednesday morning.

When asked directly, Freeze responded by saying, “I think so,” not closing the door all the way, but not giving the impression that the staff is still looking hard either.

“I don’t know of a single thing right now that interests us in it,” Freeze said.

Auburn has added 19 players through the transfer portal since the 2024 season ended, with most of those additions coming during the winter window.

The haul was highlighted by former Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold and former Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., but included a handful of players with a chance to contribute right away.

The spring portal window wasn’t as active for Auburn, but it added a few experienced pieces on defense to give depth and stability to a young unit. Maryland transfer Caleb Wheatland highlighted the spring class, bolstering the linebacker core that lost four seniors after the 2024 season.

As of now, Auburn has the No. 8 transfer class in the country, according to 247Sports, placing the Tigers fourth in the Southeastern Conference behind LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri.
