South Alabama football officially adds 13 transfers for 2025
South Alabama officially added 13 players to its 2025 roster on Tuesday, 11 via the transfer portal and two who are junior-college transfers.
Three of the portal transfers were not publicly committed before Tuesday — running back Trae’von Dunbar (West Virginia), tight end Nate Forystek (North Dakota State) and offensive lineman Reese Osei-Wusu (Lamar). They join quarterback Zach Pyron (Minnesota), offensive linemen Jaylen Booker (Bethune-Cookman) and Brayden Ramey (Florida Atlantic), defensive linemen Stephen Johnson (McNeese) and Emmanuel Waller (UAB), linebacker IBK Mafe (St. Thomas) and cornerbacks Nehemiah Chandler (Georgia Tech) and Greg Johnson (Navy) as FBS, FCS or Division II transfers who are set to join the Jaguars this summer.
Also newly signed are Kansas junior-college cornerbacks David Houston (Butler Community College) and Saivion Kenon (Coffeyville). Kenon committed to South Alabama on Sunday, Houston on Monday.
The 5-foot-9, 210-pound Dunbar, originally from South Carolina, did not play in a game last season for the Mountaineers while redshirting. A three-star recruit in the 2024 class, he has four years of eligibility remaining.
Forystek (6-6, 248) played in two games in three years for the Bison, the reigning FCS national champion. The Green Bay, Wis., native has two years of eligibility remaining.
Osei-Wusu (6-4, 310) has not played in a game the last two seasons for the Cardinals, an FCS program. A native of England who played high school football in the Houston area, he has three years of eligibility remaining.
South Alabama added 12 portal transfers in January — wide receiver Brendan Jenkins (Samford), tight end Miller McCrumby (Arkansas State), offensive linemen Leavy Johnson (Western Kentucky), Ni Mansell (South Carolina) and Amaury Wiggins (Arkansas), defensive end Tirrell Johnson (Harding), linebackers Caleb Dozier (Georgia Tech) and Tre’Mon Henry (Southern Miss), cornerback Jayvon Henderson (East Tennessee State) and safeties Anthony Brown (Purdue), Tywon Wray (Oklahoma State) and Dallas Young (Arkansas). Wiggins and Jenkins emerged from spring practice as likely starters for the Jaguars in 2025.
South Alabama finished 2024 at 7-6, its third consecutive winning season. The Jaguars open the 2025 season at home Aug. 30 vs. Morgan State.
