Where is Auburn baseball ranked after sweeping South Carolina?

Auburn baseball made another statement both to pollsters and the NCAA selection committee last weekend, sweeping South Carolina and setting a new program record for runs scored in a season.

The wins improved Auburn to 36-15 overall and 16-11 in Southeastern Conference play, tying it for fourth in the SEC. Holding onto that fourth spot is important going into the final weekend of the regular season, as the top four teams in the conference get a double bye in the SEC tournament.

Not only did the wins improve Auburn’s place in the conference, but helped the Tigers’ chances at earning a top eight seed in the NCAA tournament, which would make them hosts in the regional and super regional rounds.

Lastly — and arguably least significantly — the sweep improved Auburn’s rank in each of the major polls, with the Tigers now ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in two of the major polls, and holding the second spot in the RPI. They trail LSU in both of those polls; a team Auburn swept at Plainsman Park in April.

With that said, here’s where Auburn stands in the five major polls after sweeping South Carolina:

  • Baseball America: No. 2
  • Perfect Game: No. 2
  • D1 Baseball: No. 6
  • USA Today Coaches Poll: No. 6
  • NCBWA: No. 8

The Tigers have four games remaining in the regular season, starting with a midweek home game against Jacksonville State Tuesday night. That will be followed by the final series of SEC play in which Auburn will face Ole Miss on the road.

The Rebels are ranked in two of the five polls and currently rank 17th in the RPI. That series is set to begin Thursday night, with games one and three streaming on SEC Network+ and Game 2 televised on SEC Network.
