Popular breakfast restaurant to set opening date for newest Alabama restaurant
An Atlanta-based brunch chain is about to set a grand opening date for its fourth Alabama restaurant.
The Flying Biscuit Café already had stores in Birmingham and Opelika and opened a Huntsville location in mid-April. The company has confirmed that Alabama’s fourth Flying Biscuit will open in Mobile.
Whether by accident or design, the site in the Rouses Market-anchored Spring Hill Village Shopping Center puts the new store smack in what you might call the Old Shell Road Brunch Corridor. It’ll be east of the Maple Street Biscuit Co. and west of Big Bad Breakfast and The Toasted Yolk, three other chains with broadly similar breakfast-brunch-lunch concepts. (Not to mention local brunch-friendly spots such as Ashland Midtown Pub.)
“We’re incredibly excited to bring the Flying Biscuit Café to Mobile,” said Andrew Scherzer, vice president of franchise development. “The momentum we’ve built in 2024 has been remarkable, and launching in a dynamic city like Mobile is a key step in our 2025 growth strategy. The enthusiasm and confidence from our franchise partners continue to drive our expansion.”
The first Flying Biscuit Café opened in 1993 in Atlanta. It now has more than 30 stores, with 15 openings expected in 2025. It claims to bake almost 5,000 biscuits a week at each location.
The breakfast menu hits a range of popular formats, including burritos, French toast, scrambles, sandwiches and “Benedicts.” The brunch-lunch menu adds specialties such as burgers with truffle parmesan fries, white cheddar grits with blackened shrimp, shrimp and chicken wraps and salads. There’s also a slate of vegan/vegetarian options and an extensive cocktail menu. (Want a flight of mimosas made with your choice of three different juices? They’ve got you covered.)
According to promotional information, The Flying Biscuit will announce a final grand opening date soon. For updates, visit www.facebook.com/flyingbiscuitmobile.
