Alabama high school teacher charged with distributing obscene material of a child

A Lincoln High School teacher was arrested Thursday morning at his Hoover home.

Owen Hardin Stallworth III, 27, is charged with distribution of obscene material of a child. School officials said Thursday afternoon he is no longer employed by the system.

He was taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation by Homewood police, Hoover police and the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, said Homewood police Sgt. John Carr.

Details of the allegations against Stallworth weren’t made public. Jail records indicate the alleged offense happened on Dec. 22, 2022.

Stallworth was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:04 a.m. He was released at 11:13 a.m. after posting $30,000.

According to the Talladega County Schools website, Stallworth teaches business/marketing education at the school. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is a photographer.

Talladega County Schools spokesman Griffin Hill released this statement to AL.com: “Earlier today, we were contacted by law enforcement in regards to Owen Stallworth, a teacher at Lincoln High School. Law enforcement informed us that Mr. Stallworth was arrested and charged with Distribution of Obscene Material of a Child. Mr. Stallworth is no longer employed with the Talladega County Schools.”
