Trump offers $1,000, free flights for immigrants who self-deport: ‘It’s the safest way’

The Trump administration on Monday unveiled a new immigration policy, enticing migrants with cash and a free flight if they self-deport.

“If you’re an illegal alien, you should download the CBP Home app — it’s free on any device — and you can get a flight that will be paid for by DHS,” said U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin during a Fox News appearance, “and as well, we will give you a $1,000 stipend.”

She claimed the payment saves American taxpayers 70% of the cost for an undocumented immigrant that remains in the United States.

“It is also safer for the migrant, it is safer for our law enforcement, if you self-deport,” McLaughlin said. “You should do so today.”

Migrants who accept the offer will be deprioritized for deportation, according to DHS.

Asked why migrants should believe the government, McLaughlin said, “there’s documentation. We’re giving you our word that we will give you this money … you can leave today. It’s the safest way. You will not be arrested. You will not be detained and we will give you that free flight.”
