Could Party City be making a comeback? This company plans to ‘reinvigorate’ the brand
Months after Party City’s decision to shutter all its stores and end a 40-year run in business, a new iteration of the popular party supply store could reemerge.
A banner on the Party City website reads “A New Party City is Coming Soon.”
“Get ready for a bigger, better, and more exciting Party City experience! We’re transforming the way you celebrate with a fresh new look, expanded product selections, and even more ways to bring your party to life,” reads text underneath the banner. “Whether you’re planning birthdays, holidays, or any special occasion, the new Party City will be your ultimate destination for all things festive.”
The text ends with another announcement: “Stay tuned—something spectacular is on the way!”
New Amscan PC, LLC, an affiliate of leading party supply manufacturer Ad Populum, LLC., now owns the majority of Party City’s intellectual property and assets. A February announcement of the acquisition said Ad Populum intends to lead a “transformation of the Party City and Amscan brands.”
NBC Chicago reports an email sent last week to Party City customers announced the change, saying New Amscan plans to ‘reinvigorate’ the brand.
“New Amscan PC, LLC will bring you the same services you’ve come to love from Party City, including brick-and-mortar stores and an e-commerce platform,” the email said. “And there’s even more to celebrate, as Party City is being reimagined to once again be your go-to destination for everything you need to throw the perfect party. From balloons to decorations and everything in between, we’re putting the spotlight on making every celebration easier, faster, and more fun than ever!”
When Party City reemerges, it will return to more competition.
Leading craft retailer Michaels plans to expand its balloon section and add more than 500 new products geared toward celebrations, from graduations to birthdays. Discount retailers Dollar Tree and Five Below– two brands that already have robust party supply sections for low prices– have also signed leases at several shuttered Party City locations.
