Longtime Colorado defensive back signs with Jacksonville State

Former Colorado defensive back and linebacker Trevor Woods signed with Jacksonville State out of the NCAA transfer portal on Friday, a source confirmed to AL.com.

Pete Nakos of On3 Sports was the first to report the news.

The move reunites Woods with new Jacksonville State head coach Charles Kelly, who served as defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Colorado in 2023 under Deion Sanders.

The defender was one of the few players for Colorado who remained with the team following the hire of Sanders ahead of the 2022 season.

Woods played in 33 games across four seasons with Colorado, totaling 168 total tackles (125 solo), 10 pass deflections, 3 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions, 2.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

His most productive seasons with Colorado came in 2022 and 2023 as a starter at safety, when he totaled 135 tackles and 9 pass deflections across two seasons.

Woods marked career highs in tackles (79), forced fumbles (2) while logging 4 pass deflections in his lone season being coached by Kelly at Colorado.

This offseason saw Woods transition to linebacker, where he played in just four games; he totaled 14 tackles and a tackle for loss across that span and used his redshirt to preserve a season of eligibility.

A former 3-star prospect out of high school he is a native of Katy, Texas, and a graduate of James E. Taylor High School. He was rated by ESPN as the No. 88 safety in his class.
