Former UAB cornerback picked in 2025 NFL Draft
The Philadelphia Eagles chose UCF cornerback Dacarrion “Mac” McWilliams at No. 145 in the NFL Draft on Saturday.
The fifth-round pick spent four seasons at UAB before completing his college career with the Knights in 2024.
McWilliams heads for the NFL after running a 4.41-second 40-yard dash in February at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he measured 5-foot-10 and 191 pounds.
McWilliams totaled 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble in 11 games for UCF in 2024.
A prep star at Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida, McWilliams followed his brother, Adarius “Fish” McWilliams, a 6-foot-0, 315-pound nose tackle, to UAB.
“UAB was a great experience, playing with my older brother,” McWilliams said while at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. “He taught me a lot of things — just to keep your head down, stay in the course. I became a team leader while I was there, and it was great.”
After redshirting in 2020, McWilliams was a three-year contributor at UAB. He made the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2021, totaled 10 pass breakups and an interception (which he returned for a touchdown in a 59-0 victory over Alabama A&M) in just seven games in 2022 and was a team captain and 12-game starter in 2023.
But with his brother leaving after six seasons at UAB and the Blazers having gone through three head coaches — Bill Clark, Bryant Vincent and Trent Dilfer – during his time with the program, McWilliams decided to move on to UCF and coach Gus Malzahn in 2024.
“Having a coach like Gus, he’s an old head, and he’s going to do everything right,” McWilliams said of his UCF experience. “He’s going to teach you the right way, and he expects you to follow that.”
This year’s NFL Draft marks the second in a row that a player who transferred from an Alabama college to UCF has been chosen. In 2024, the Buffalo Bills picked Tylan Grable from UCF in the sixth round after the offensive tackle transferred from Jacksonville State.
