Spire terminates CEO, elevates executive VP to role

Natural gas utility Spire has named Scott Doyle as its new president and CEO.

Doyle replaces Steve Lindsey, who was terminated without cause and who resigned as a board member, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In a news release, Spire said the management change “is not the result of any material or unexpected financial events.” The company said it will announce details of a separation agreement with Lindsey and terms of Doyle’s employment later.

Scott recently served as Spire’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. He had filled in for Lindsey from Jan. 3 through Feb. 10, as Lindsey began a leave of absence for health-related reasons, according to a filing.

“Scott is an accomplished, collaborative leader, with deep industry expertise, business acumen and the abilities to both connect with people and deliver results,” Board of Directors Chair Rob Jones said.

Spire’s gas utilities serve more than 1.7 million customers across Alabama, Missouri and Mississippi.

Scott previously served as executive vice president of utility operations at CenterPoint Energy in Houston, Texas, and held numerous executive leadership positions with that company.

Jones thanked Lindsey for his “dedicated service and commitment to Spire, including his service as CEO,” wishing him well in future endeavors.

Lindsey said leading Spire “has been a true privilege.”

“Thanks to the dedication of many, the company is entering a new era of opportunity, and I’m confident that Spire has a bright future ahead.”

Doyle said the company will “continue to focus on modernizing our systems for the benefit of our customers.”
