South Alabama adds former ACC cornerback out of transfer portal
South Alabama has added a transfer portal commitment from Nehemiah Chandler, a cornerback who played last season at Georgia Tech.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Chandler played in just one game for the Yellow Jackets in 2024 and did not record any stats. The former 3-star recruit has four years of eligibility remaining.
Chandler had previously been committed to Appalachian State, and his flip to South Alabama was first reported by App State News. AL.com confirmed the news via a source.
South Alabama has lost two cornerbacks with starting experience to the transfer portal since the end of the 2024 season, with Amarion Fortenberry leaving for Kansas State in January and Ricky Fletcher for Ole Miss last week. In addition, Reggie Neely — a starter last season while Fletcher was sidelined due to injury — left the team in January with plans to end his football career despite having another year of eligibility.
Chandler is South Alabama’s second public portal commitment during the current cycle, along with quarterback Zach Pyron (Minnesota). The Jaguars are expected to add a half-dozen or more transfers before summer workouts begin at the end of May.
South Alabama finished 7-6 in 2024, its third consecutive winning season.
