A suspect has been charged in the weekend shooting death of a 59-year-old man in Center Point.

Jacobye Bryan Green, 21, was charged Wednesday with murder. He is charged in the Sunday slaying of Phillip Edward Lankford.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 9 a.m. Sunday to Shadowood Circle on a report of a body found near a stairwell at an apartment complex.

Lt. Joni Money said deputies arrived to find Lankford had sustained a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:26 a.m.

Authorities have not released a motive in Lankford’s death, nor said if he knew the suspect.

Green is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
