2025 NFL Draft: State players waiting to hear their names
In last year’s NFL Draft, 27 prospects who had played at Alabama high schools and colleges were picked. That was three more selections with Alabama football roots than had been chosen in the 2023 draft. And those 24 players were three more than had been selected in the 2022 draft.
So will the 2025 draft this week include 30 prospects who played at Alabama high schools and colleges?
Probably not, particularly with Alabama not expected to produce a double-digit crop of draft picks as it did in five of the past seven years.
The 90th NFL Draft starts with the 32 selections of the first round at 7 p.m. CDT Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The prospects with Alabama football roots who are considered first-round possibilities are Alabama guard Tyler Booker and linebacker Jihaad Campbell and Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos, who played for the Crimson Tide in the 2023 season.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe also has first-round potential as QB-hungry teams push the position up the board.
After the 32 picks on Thursday night, 70 more players will be drafted in the second and third rounds on Friday, with the selections starting at 6 p.m.
Prospects who played at Alabama high schools and colleges projected as solid second-day picks include Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins from Pike Road High School, Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who spent two seasons at Alabama; and Ole Miss defensive tackle JJ Pegues, who played his first two college seasons at Auburn.
To complete the draft, 155 players will be picked on Saturday, with the draft resuming at 11 a.m. with the fourth round and continuing through the seventh, when the 257th choice will conclude the event.
If they didn’t go on Friday, the prospects with Alabama football roots who could hear their names on Saturday include:
- Auburn linebacker Eugene Asante
- Auburn defensive tackle Philip Blidi
- Kansas cornerback Cobee Bryant (Hillcrest-Evergreen)
- Alabama punter James Burnip
- Alabama tight end CJ Dippre
