Cooper Henson’s no-hitter lifts No. 7 Saraland to 6A sweep of Wetumpka
Cooper Henson threw a no-hitter in Game 2 to lead homestanding and No. 7 Saraland to a first-round sweep of Wetumpka in the Class 6A playoffs.
The Spartans won the first game 8-3 and then rode Henson’s gem to a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap. Saraland will play Chelsea or Brookwood in next week’s best-of-3 Round 2.
Henson walked 3 and struck out 8 for Saraland (21-9).
Terab Senegal and John Abston each had 2 hits for the Spartans, who scored three runs in the second and single runs in the third and fourth. Fuller Chisholm, Abston and Collin Smith all drove in runs.
Asher Nobles took the loss for the Indians (18-14).
In the opener, the Spartans scored five runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. Myles Davis’ two-run double was a key blow in the inning. Henson also had an RBI double. Jamison Roberts and Hudson Robbins each had RBI singles. All three finished with 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the game.
Cade Mason pitched the first 6 innings to get the win, scattering 4 hits and allowing 3 runs. He struck out 6. Christian Rice got the final three outs. Dylan Jordan took the loss for the Indians. He gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in 4.2 innings.
Nobles was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs for Wetumpka.
