Jacksonville State lands former East Carolina forward via transfer portal

Jacksonville State added some size at the forward position on Wednesday.

Former East Carolina forward Bencao Vungo signed with Jax State out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on social media Wednesday evening.

The 6-foot-7, 207-pound native of Chitato, Angola, just finished his sophomore season with the Pirates.

Vungo spent two seasons at ECU and played in 17 games for the Pirates, appearing in 8 games in the 2024-25 season. He logged 9 rebounds and 3 points across 39 minutes of work

In nine games in the 2023-24 season, he totaled nine rebounds and scored five points across 50 minutes of work; he played 20 minutes against South Florida and grabbed 2 rebounds.

Along with playing at Southern Coast Academy in Orlando, Fla., he played for both the 17U and 18U Angola national teams and played in seven games during the 2022 18U championship.

He scored 9.6 points per game and scored 23 points against Egypt in the semifinals as he shot 5-for-9 from 3-point range.
