AHSAA coaches soccer poll: Only 2 teams remain unbeaten as playoffs approach

With the Alabama High School Athletic Association soccer playoffs set to begin next week, there are only two teams still sporting an undefeated record and both, predictably, hold No. 1 rankings in the Week 10 AHSAA soccer coaches Top 10.

Oak Mountain’s boys are 23-0 after two impressive wins at the Border Wars quad match in Fort Payne over the weekend. The girls Class 1A/3A No. 1 team, Donoho, is 16-0 and has allowed only 6 goals all season.

Coach David DiPiazza’s Eagles beat Fort Payne 8-0 on Friday to open the Border Wars event and then came back with a 10-0 win over Class 5A No. 1 Guntersville – holding the Wildcats without a shot. Oak Mountain has scored 119 goals and surrendered 8.

Donoho, coached by Tim Melton, just won its eighth Calhoun County Tournament crown. There have only been eight Calhoun County Tournaments. The Falcons have scored 129 goals to go with their stellar defense.

Sub-state tournaments begin April 22 and run through May 3. The AHSAA state tournament is set for May 7-10 in Huntsville.

Oak Mountain is ranked as the No. 1 boys team in the nation by MaxPreps and Class 7A, Area 6 foe Hoover is ranked third. Vestavia Hills, the No. 1 team in Class 7A, is ranked fourth in the girls poll, Class 6A No. 1 Spain Park is ninth and 7A No. 7 James Clemens is ranked 24th.

There were no changes to the No. 1 teams from a week ago, including the the Super Poll, which ranks the top teams regardless of classification. Here are the Week 10 rankings:
