Shocking poll shows Trump’s crumbling support among this key demographic group
A key demographic once over the moon with how Donald Trump was handling his job no longer approves of the president, according to a poll released Wednesday.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 29 were pleased at the start president’s second term, with 50% approving of Trump in January compared to 45.8% who disapproved, according to the YouGov/Economist poll tracker.
But in the new poll, just 32% of young people strongly or somewhat approve of the president’s job while 57% strongly or somewhat disapprove of how Trump is doing his job — a 20% swing from January.
Trump’s popularity with young people has also taken a massive hit this month, the poll showed.
A week before Trump began his second term, 52.2% of young people viewed him favorably while 45.5% had an unfavorable view.
In the survey released Wednesday, 32% of young people had a strong or somewhat favorable view of the president. More than 6 in 10 respondents had a strong or somewhat unfavorable view of Trump.
Young voters have traditionally sided with Democrats in presidential elections.
But Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris underperformed with these voters, who were crucial to Trump winning a second term in the White House.
The YouGov/Economist survey interviewed 1,741 U.S. adults between April 5 and April 8, including 1,563 registered voters.
It has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.1%.
