Alabama actor Walton Goggins took to Instagram following the finale of “The White Lotus” on Sunday to share his thoughts on how his character’s story ended as well as express his gratitude for getting the chance to take part in the series.

On season three of the popular HBO series, Goggins played Rick, who visits The White Lotus luxury resort in Thailand with his girlfriend Chelsea, played by Aimee Lou Wood, as a way to confront the man he believed to be his father’s murderer.

In the finale, Rick learns the man he thought was his father’s murderer was actually his father, played by Scott Glenn, and is involved in a shooting that leads to his death as well as the death of his girlfriend.

“Rick + Chelsea. With the heaviest of hearts…,” Goggins wrote in a post on Instagram. “To me, ours was a love story. It was only ever a love story, hindered by unresolved, childhood trauma. We all have them… but can we move past them. In the depths of our despair there is always beauty around us. If we can sit with our pain, just sit with it… not react… not be defined by it…It’s there… the love the world is constantly giving in any given moment is there. Always waiting for us to see it… Trust me I know.”

In addition, Goggins shared his gratitude towards the show’s creator Mike White as well as other members of the cast, including Wood and Sam Rockwell who portrayed Rick’s friend Frank, and crew. Lastly, he thanked the fans and shared a fitting quote from Aeschylus, known as the Greek father of tragedy.

“Thank you Mike White for your imagination, your tender heart, for the privilege of giving us the opportunity to tell it,” wrote Goggins. “Thank you Aimee Lou for being my partner…a journey I will never forget. Sammy Rock for being the best wing man a fella could ask for. And every stellar actor in this cast…. You’re just incredible to watch. Bernad, John, Ben, Kamine… and this whole crew. I love you. We’ll always have Thailand. And to all of you…thank you for going on this journey with us.”
