Former Huntsville star entering NCAA transfer portal out of Samford
Samford’s Caleb Harrison has entered the NCAA transfer portal, his high school coach Christian Schweers announced on social media Sunday.
Harrison spent one season at Samford, redshirting as a freshman.
The move comes one day after former Samford coach Bucky McMillan was announced as the next head coach at Texas A&M.
The 6-foot-9, 205-pound forward also held offers from Troy, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Loyola-Chicago and Belmont out of high school, along with several Ivy League programs.
As a senior at Huntsville, Harrison earned first team all-state honors in Class 7A and was named a Huntsville Times Co-Player of the Year alongside eventual Mr. Basketball winner Caleb Holt.
He averaged 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists a game for a Huntsville squad that advanced to the AHSAA state semifinals and totaled 32 wins; he was also MVP of the Northeast Regional, the Huntsville City Classic, the Class 7A Area 7 Tournament, the Orange Beach Mako Classic and the N2Hoops Classic.
The former Huntsville star totaled 1,518 points and 924 rebounds during his time with the Panthers and was previously the program’s all-time wins leader; J.D. Gossett broke his record this season with 119 career victories.
