Iconic singer can’t read, see sons play sports after eyesight loss: ‘Very stressful time’
Elton John called losing his eyesight “stressful” in a recent interview in which he added he can’t read or watch his sons play sports anymore.
“I can see you, but I can’t see TV, I can’t read,” John told the Times of London on Friday. “I can’t see my boys (Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12) playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up.”
The 78-year-old musician, 78, suffered from an eye infection, which has left him with irreparable damage.
“You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have,” John said. “I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of (my left eye). So you say to yourself, ‘Just get on with it.‘”
In November, the hitmaker first revealed he had lost most of his eyesight.
“I had an infection in the South of France,” he shared with ABC News’ Robin Roberts at the time. “It’s been four months since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye’s not the greatest. I’m, kind of, stuck in the moment.”
