Katie Britt: Biden ‘popping champagne’ during State of the Union while families worry about economy

President Biden was figuratively “popping champagne” while delivering his State of the Union address Tuesday night as American families worried about the economy, Sen. Katie Britt said.

“Parents and families are sitting around the kitchen table tonight, worrying about how they’re going to make ends meet in the face of crushing inflation,” Alabama’s junior senator, a Republican, tweeted during the speech as Biden boasted about what he said were his administration’s successes, including creating 12 million new jobs and his infrastructure bill.

“Meanwhile, the President is popping champagne,” Britt continued.

Several minutes after Britt’s tweet, Biden began addressing the worries of the parents and families Britt alluded to.

”My economic plan is about investing in places and people that have been forgotten. Amid the economic upheaval of the past four decades, too many people have been left behind or treated like they’re invisible. Maybe that’s you, watching at home,” he said.

“You remember the jobs that went away. And you wonder whether a path even exists anymore for you and your children to get ahead without moving away. I get it,” he continued.

“That’s why we’re building an economy where no one is left behind.”
