South Alabama linebacker enters NCAA transfer portal
South Alabama linebacker Gavin Forsha has entered the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Thursday.
Forsha, a fifth-year senior with one year of eligibility remaining, played in seven games and started five for the Jaguars in 2024 prior to suffering a season-ending knee injury. He totaled 27 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
The transfer portal’s spring window runs April 16-25, but as a graduate transfer Forsha can enter at any time. He announced his departure via social media:
The 6-foot-2, 227-pound Forsha played a total of two seasons at South Alabama, appearing in three games and taking a redshirt in 2024. The Nashville, Tenn., native previously spent a year each at Tyler (Texas) Junior College and Kansas State, where he compiled 10 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in nine games in 2023.
Forsha had not been participating in South Alabama spring practice while he continued to rehab his injury. He was not expected to return to the team in the fall.
South Alabama returns starting inside linebackers Blayne Myrick and Darius McKenzie for 2025, while key contributor Dalton Hughes is also expected to be back by August after recovering from his own 2024 knee injury. In addition, Georgia Tech transfer Caleb Dozier has also made a positive impact this spring.
South Alabama is currently in the middle of spring drills, leading up to the Spring Showcase open practice and fan fest April 12. The Jaguars — who finished 7-6 and won the Salute to Veterans Bowl last season — open their 2025 schedule at home Aug. 30 vs. Morgan State.
