57-year-old man killed in east Birmingham house fire

A 57-year-old man died early Thursday after fire swept through his east Birmingham home.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Johnny James Foster Jr.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and Birmingham police responded just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to the home at 201 Redstone Way on a report of a house fire with people still inside.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the two-story home.

Fire medics performed CPR on the scene and transported Foster to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m.

The Birmingham Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
