Mother allegedly left 2 infants in unlocked, running vehicle outside Alabama courthouse
An Alabama mother is under arrest after authorities say she left two infants in her car while she went into the Lee County Justice Center.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to the government building at 2311 Gateway Drive in Opelika.
They responded after a concerned citizen notified authorities that the babies were left alone in car seats in the parking lot.
Deputies found the infants unattended in the unlocked running vehicle.
The mother was located inside of the Justice Center and was confronted about the incident, sheriff’s officials said.
She immediately became agitated and started arguing with deputies, saying that it wasn’t a big deal.
Deputies estimate the children were left alone for about 10 minutes.
The mother, 24-year-old Sh’nyia A’Zebria Glaze of Opelika was arrested on the spot for undisclosed outstanding warrants.
She is now also charged with two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.
Glaze was booked into the Lee County Jail and later released on bonds totaling $5,000.
A family member was contacted to pick up the children.
As is protocol, the Alabama Department of Human Resources was notified.
