More severe weather possible in Alabama on Sunday and Monday: What we know now
Another severe weather threat is shaping up for Alabama over the weekend.
Alabama’s weather will remain on the dry side through Friday, but changes are expected this weekend.
The National Weather Service thinks strong to severe storms will be possible for the northern two-thirds of Alabama starting on Sunday night.
Storms could be an issue for much of the state through the overnight hours and into Monday as well.
The severe weather outlook for Sunday from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is at the top of this post.
The severe weather outlook for Monday is shown below:
The threat for severe weather will continue in Alabama into the day on Monday.SPC
Both severe weather outlooks are forecasting the equivalent of a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather.
A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible.
The weather service cautioned that, depending on forecast trends, there could be an increase to the risk level in future forecasts.
The weather service said tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds, hail and heavy rain will all be possible with the Sunday/Monday storms.
And if that wasn’t enough, it looks like it could be an overnight event for many.
The weather service cautioned that the timing is still subject to change, but right now the most likely timing for severe weather will start on Sunday night in west Alabama and progress eastward overnight and into the daytime hours on Monday.
The weather service urged Alabamians to keep an eye on the forecast, especially later this week, since the threats and timing will come into clearer focus.
