Bruce Pearl gives injury update on Auburn basketball’s Chad Baker-Mazara
Chad Baker-Mazara was one of the heroes in Auburn men’s basketball’s NCAA tournament second-round win over Creighton Saturday night.
The senior wing scored 17 points, with 12 of them coming in the second half. However, his night was cut relatively short due to an apparent injury to his right hip.
It happened around the 12-minute mark of the second half when Baker-Mazara took a hard fall after a contested layup. He made both of the ensuing free throws, but went back to the ground after jogging back down the floor.
He left the game and went to the locker room, returning later in the half with an ice pack on his right hip. He briefly returned to the game twice in the final minutes, but looked to be in pain both times.
Bruce Pearl said after the game that Baker-Mazara “probably got a pretty good bruise,” and “Hopefully that’s all it is.”
“Chad, you know, obviously he’s a buck seventy-five soaking wet and he has a bony ass,” Pearl said postgame. “So, when he lands on the ground, bam, it’s wood on bone.”
Baker-Mazara will have some time to rest, as Auburn’s Sweet Sixteen game against Michigan won’t be until next Friday.
