Iconic hip-hop ‘horrorcore’ pioneers to play 2 Alabama shows
A rap duo that has carved out a strange and unique place for itself over the last 35 years, inspiring legions of “Juggalo” fans along the way, will play two club shows in Alabama this spring.
The Insane Clown Posse is a Detroit-based act known for its clown makeup, “horrorcore” lyrics and imagery, and semi-regular forays into mainstream notoriety, such as a 2014-17 legal battle with the FBI over whether the band’s following (or portions of it) constituted a loosely organized gang. The outcome of the case did not confirm or dispel the allegation, which the band and most fans vigorously disputed.
While the group’s niche appeal has not translated into hit singles, I.C.P. has cracked the Top 20 with eight of its studio albums. The first of these, 1999’s “The Amazing Jeckel Brothers” hit No. 4 and the most recent, “the Marvelous Missing Link: Lost” reached No. 15 in 2015.
Insane Clown Posse will perform May 16, a Friday, at Soul Kitchen Music Hall in Mobile. On Saturday, May 17, the group will appear at The Plant in Dothan. General public ticket sales start at 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, for both shows.
Tickets for the Mobile show are $42.50 plus fees in advance and $50 day of show, with a limited quantity of side riser seats available for $94.50. Tickets can be ordered via www.soulkitchenmobile.com or by calling 866-777-8932. Patrons younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent; patrons younger than 21 will pay a $5 surcharge at the door.
Tickets for the Dothan show are available through theplantdothan.com. Attendance is limited to patrons 16 and older; patrons must have a current U.S., federal or state-issued ID.
A presale for both shows was to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, using the password JUGGALO25.
