A Utah-based indoor pickleball court franchise has opened its first Alabama location in Vestavia Hills.

The Picklr is located at 1031 Montgomery Hwy. It opened March 15.

The venue has 10 pickleball courts, including four championship courts, available for reservations.

The courts feature outdoor surfacing, ball machine, rooms and showers. There is a pro shop and a private event area.

The Picklr offers league play, tournaments, or drop-in playing available.

Membership at The Picklr entitles players to have nationwide access to any one of locations in 28 states. They also have four clinic passes, and four guest passes per month.

Another franchise, Pickleball Kingdom, is planning two indoor pickleball locations for the Birmingham and Huntsville areas.

Pickleball has steadily been growing in popularity over the last decade. Combining elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, the game was invented in 1965. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association said in 2023 that more than 13 million Americans had played pickleball at least once.
