Female killed in Saturday morning Hoover shooting; suspect in custody

An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting Saturday morning in Hoover.

Officers were dispatched just after 8 a.m. to the 700 block of Jasmine Way after receiving several calls of shots fired and a female injured.

Capt. Keith Czeskleba said they arrived to find the female outside a home in the small one-street subdivision off Shades Crest Road. She had been shot several times.

Witnesses and officers rendered aid to her until Hoover Fire medics arrived. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her identity has not been released.

Neighbors reported hearing six shots.

Czeskleba said a male suspect was taken into custody on the scene with the help of an off-duty law enforcement officer who was in the area.

Detectives are on scene gathering information to determine what led up to the shooting and working to confirm the relationship between those involved, he said.

This is Hoover’s first homicide of 2025.
