Denver Broncos get tight end for quarterback Bo Nix
In quarterback Bo Nix’s first NFL season, none of the Denver Broncos’ tight ends reached 20 receptions.
Lucas Krull had 19 receptions for 152 yards, Nate Adkins had 14 receptions for 115 yards and three touchdowns and Adam Trautman had 13 receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns in 2024.
On Wednesday, the Broncos sought to upgrade the position as they reached an agreement with free agent Evan Engram.
Even though Engram missed eight games in 2024, he had one more reception than the three Denver tight ends with 47 catches for 365 yards and one touchdown for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The previous season, Engram had 114 receptions for 963 yards and four touchdowns and earned Pro Bowl recognition for the second time in his NFL career.
In 108 NFL regular-season games, Engram has 496 receptions for 4,922 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Engram is coming aboard for a two-year, $23 million contract that includes $16.5 million in guaranteed money, the Denver Post reported.
Engram was a free agent after the Jaguars released the tight end on March 6 for a $15.48 million salary-cap savings.
A former Pinson Valley High School and Auburn quarterback, Nix finished third in the voting for The Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award as he completed 376-of-567 passes for 3,775 yards with 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and ran for 430 yards and four touchdowns on 92 carries. The Broncos reached the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season.
