Alabama man who allegedly punched girlfriend’s 2-year-old son multiple times charged with child abuse
A north Alabama man is facing aggravated child abuse charges after authorities say he repeatedly punched his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son in an incident caught on video, court records showed.
Ridge Watkins, 35, of Muscle Shoals, was allegedly shown on video throwing “what appears to be three closed-fist punches to the child’s back area,” according to an affidavit from a Muscle Shoals police detective filed Tuesday in Colbert County District Court.
The boy sustained marks on his back, buttocks and legs after Watkins was “extremely physical” with the child during the Jan. 28 incident.
Watkins was arrested after a friend of his girlfriend reported the abuse Tuesday to Muscle Shoals police and provided the department with “disturbing videos of Watkins being physically abusive toward [his girlfriend’s] 2-year-old son…,” court records showed.
Watkins was booked into the Colbert County jail Tuesday afternoon on a count of aggravated child abuse.
Efforts to reach Watkins’ attorney were not immediately successful.
