Stephen King movie filmed in Alabama gets new release plan

A Stephen King adaptation filmed in the Mobile area in 2024 now has a summer release date, according to its distributor.

“The Life of Chuck” stars Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, Nick Offerman, Jacob Tremblay, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, David Dastmalchian and Chiwetl Ejiofor. Comprised of several episodes told in reverse order, it’s based on a novella in which the death of a man named Charles Krantz (Hiddleston) appears to coincide with the end of the world.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It won the festival’s People’s Choice Award, leading to increased anticipation and a distribution deal with Neon. A May 30 release date previously had been reported, but on Tuesday Neon announced on social media that the film will hit theaters in June. The distributor did not give a specific date but teased the movie with the tagline, “The mystery of a lifetime.”

The film was directed by Mike Flanagan, who’s also credited as co-writer with King.

The Mobile Film Office described the new release plan as “big news,” saying on Facebook that the project “employed a number of local crew members and utilized a variety of local businesses, and locations.”

The Mobile Film Office also praised filmmakers for “working with local officials, Police, and members of our community to make it a wonderful filming experience,” and added, “We can’t wait to see this film when it comes out.”
