Tiger Woods says he’s suffered another major injury
Tiger Woods announced Tuesday he has undergone surgery for a ruptured left Achilles tendon, meaning he will almost certainly miss next month’s Masters.
Woods, 49, announced via social media that he suffered the injury during training. He did not detail how long he might be away from competitive golf.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote.
The Masters takes place April 10-13 at Augusta National. Woods has made the cut at the event a record 24 straight years, winning the coveted green jacket five times — most recently in 2019.
Woods has not played competitively this year other than in his indoor league and 18 holes at the Seminole Pro-Member tournament last week. His most recent PGA Tour event came when he missed the cut at the British Open last July.
Woods has won a record-tying 82 PGA Tour events, including 15 major championships. However, he has been beset by health setbacks in recent years, including back problems and severe leg and ankle injuries suffered in a 2021 car accident.
