Only 37% of Democrats want Biden to run for a 2nd term. That’s not the worst of his poll numbers
Only 37% of Democrats want to see President Biden serve a second term, a drop of 15 percentage points from figures just before last year’s midterm elections, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
Overall, only 22% of adults overall said Biden should run again down from 29% who said the same before the midterms. Forty-one percent approve of how Biden is handling his job, a figure that improves to a majority among Democrats only.
Young Democrats in particular aren’t in favor of a second Biden term. Among Democrats 45 and older, 49% said Biden, 80, should run for reelection. Among those younger than 45, only 23% said Biden should run for reelection.
Biden is currently the oldest president in U.S. history and, if elected, would be 86 if reelected and serves the four full years.
Only 13% of those polled said they had “a lot” of confidence in Biden’s ability to accomplish major policy goals while 23% said they had a “great deal” of confidence in Biden. That’s down from 28% a year ago and 44% two years ago.
The poll included answers from 1,068 adults. It was conducted Jan. 26-30 with a sampling error of plus or minus 4.2%.
