Alabama faces another severe weather weekend: Forecasters warn of tornadoes, damaging winds
The National Weather Service said confidence continues to increase about the possibility of severe weather this weekend in Alabama.
All modes of severe weather will be on the table, including tornadoes, damaging winds and heavy rain.
Severe storms could be possible in northwest Alabama on Friday and then statewide on Saturday.
Forecasters said details about the timing at the areas most at risk will come into clearer focus in the coming days.
On Friday there will be a chance for severe storms in northwest Alabama:
The northwest corner of Alabama (areas in yellow) could have severe storms starting late Friday.SPC
Then on Saturday, NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has increased the likelihood of severe weather for parts of Alabama, adding what is equivalent to a Level 3 out of 5 risk for a wide area for Saturday (see the map at the top of this post).
A Level 3 risk means that numerous severe storms will be possible. The rest of the state is forecast to have the equivalent of a Level 2 risk, which means scattered severe storms will be possible.
The weather leading up to Friday and Saturday will be increasingly warm, according to the weather service.
Rain chances will rise on Wednesday into Thursday as another weather system moves through, but no severe weather is expected.
Clouds will again increase starting on Friday, with severe storms possible from late Friday night in northwest Alabama into Saturday for the entire state. Storms could persist into early Sunday morning in eastern Alabama, according to the weather service.
Slightly cooler temperatures and calmer weather is expected by the beginning of next week.
