Did upset of Auburn move Alabama up to a No. 1 seed?
Alabama men’s basketball is back in business.
The Crimson Tide snapped out of a losing skid in a big way. Instead of losing a fifth game in seven tries, Alabama upset the No. 1-ranked team in the country this weekend to close out the regular season. The No. 7 Crimson Tide beat Auburn 93-91 on Saturday at Neville Arena.
No. 7 Alabama (24-7, 13-5 SEC) earned the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, but a larger questions looms; where will the Crimson Tide end up in March Madness?
Is a No. 1 seed still in play? Or will Alabama end up a No. 2 seed? Can the conference tournament in Nashville this week impact where the NCAA Tournament committee ranks the Crimson Tide?
All of these questions won’t be answered officially until next Sunday. But for now, we have the latest bracketology off which to go.
ESPN: No. 2 seed in Midwest region
Joe Lunardi made his latest seeding projections Saturday night, and he moved the Crimson Tide from the East region to the Midwest region. But, he kept Alabama as a No. 2 seed. Houston ended up the No. 1 seed in Alabama’s region in this prediction.
Lunardi projects Alabama will face No. 15 seed Robert Morris in the first round before a matchup against either No. 7 seed Kansas or No. 10 seed Arkansas. Those games would be played in Cleveland based on this projection.
Then, if Alabama wins those games, it would advance to play the Sweet 16 in Indianapolis.
The other No. 1 seeds Lunardi has right now: Florida, Auburn, and Duke.
