Level 1 risk for severe weather Saturday for south Alabama
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for south Alabama on Saturday.
A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible. Those storms could produce damaging winds, hail and possibly a tornado.
The National Weather Service is not expecting severe storms in the rest of Alabama on Saturday, but there could be some thunder and rain on Saturday and lingering into Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Mobile said multiple rounds of rain and storms will be possible this weekend, with the highest rain chances from Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.
The chances for stronger storms will depend on the track of a low pressure system expected to move near Alabama. If it stays farther south over the Gulf then the probability of severe storms will decrease. However, if the system tracks farther to the north and over Alabama then severe weather will be possible, according to forecasters.
Alabama is expected to have drier weather starting on Monday, with temperatures remaining on the mild side.
The next weather system that could bring rain to the state is expected on Wednesday into Thursday. So far the Storm Prediction Center is not forecasting the possibility of severe weather for Alabama with that system.
