Alabama steel company gets $100 million auto manufacturing contract

Alabama’s largest steel subcontractor has announced a $100 million contract in the growing electric vehicle battery manufacturing sector.

Oxford’s FabArc Steel Supply is initiating “Project Armstrong,” which will involve producing about 25,000 tons of steel for an automotive project in New Carlisle, Ind.

Project Armstrong is set to begin in May, with Barton Malow as the contractor.

General Motors and Samsung SDI have announced an electric battery plant in New Carlisle that is set to open in 2027.

FabArc Steel Supply CEO Tom Adams said the project brings the company’s total battery fabrication projects to almost $300 million, “shattering all previous revenue and steel tonnage records in our 46-year history.”

Founded in 1979, FabArc Steel Supply operates two manufacturing plants with a workforce of more than 300 employees.

“Being awarded Project Armstrong is a testament to FabArc Steel Supply’s commitment to excellence and our ability to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry,” Jim Whitley, project manager said.
