Alabama NFL stars get shout-outs from Scouting Combine prospects
During their press conferences at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, general managers could count on being asked about the best pro position for Colorado’s Travis Hunter. For coaches, the question that came up over and over sought their stance on Philadelphia’s version of the quarterback sneak.
For the prospects gathered to be studied in Indianapolis, the inquiry that every press conference seemed to contain called for the draft-pick-to-be to name the NFL player that served as his role model.
At least three of the players mentioned former Alabama standouts.
It might seem Hunter would have a tough time finding someone to model his game after. Hunter played wide receiver and cornerback for Colorado on a fulltime basis and did so well enough to win the Heisman Trophy, Bednarik Award and Biletnikoff Award for the 2024 season.
But even Hunter had an answer: Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.
“I used to watch a lot of Jerry Jeudy because he’s from Florida and I’m from Florida,” Hunter said, “and so I kind of copied his movements a lot. Other than that, there’s really no player that I stamped my game after.”

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart said he tried to emulate Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“I feel like it’s a little bit of a cop-out because he just won the Super Bowl,” Dart said, “but I love J Hurts and what he does. I feel like I’m very similar in my play style to him. I feel like we can do a lot of the same things. Obviously, he’s an elite player, and I’m trying to reach that level, but he’s been somebody that I’ve tried to resemble my game after just because of his versatility — being able to run and throw the ball, and just how strong he is in the pocket.
“I think that that’s something that I’ve had a lot of fun watching, observing his play style.”
For Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham, he’d like the opportunity to study New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams even closer, seemingly suggesting the NFL team use its No. 7 pick in the draft on him to bring them together.
“It’d be really cool,” Graham told the Jets’ official website. “Guys like Quinnen Williams, playing next to him. I watched him a lot in college, and I feel like he’s a dominant player. Putting me next to him, it would only make me better.”
The NFL Draft will be held on April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
