Mississippi Mexican restaurant chain to open first Alabama location

El Agave, a Mississippi-based Mexican restaurant chain, will soon open its fifth location in Tuscaloosa’s Midtown Village, according to the shopping center’s website.

This will be El Agave’s first Alabama location, taking the place of the former Buffalo Cafe site which closed permanently in July.

The chain is known for its churros, carnitas, pico de gallo, taco salad, nachos, carne asada, chicken, shrimp, and rice bowl, according to the restaurant’s website.

It also offers a selection of classic Mexican dishes and a handcrafted cocktail and margarita menu.

A representative for Crawford Square Real Estate Advisors told the Tuscaloosa Thread that El Agave has signed a lease to take over the building and will open for business soon, but a firm date has not been set.

Efforts to reach Crawford Square Real Estate Advisors were not immediately successful.
