Where baby boomers are moving
If you’re a baby boomer – generallydefined as someone born in the post-World War II era from 1946-1964 – you may want to look at packing up and heading south.
SmartAsset.com recently looked at the top 20 cities were baby boomers were moving. Topping the list was Palm Coast, Florida. Baby boomers accounted for 3.69% of all new transplants in the city on the eastern coast of Florida. Palm Coast saw 3,753 boomers moving to the city in 2024, which has a population of roughly 101,837 people. The city’s total population of boomers is just under 32%.
Other baby boomer hot spots were:
- Cape Coral, Florida – 31.33% of population are baby boomers; 3.12% of new transplants
- Scottsdale, Arizona – 31.33% of population are baby boomers; 3.11% of new transplants
- Surprise, Arizona – 24.4% of population are baby boomers; 3.10% of new transplants
- Goodyear, Arizona – 24.4% of population are baby boomers; 3.09% of new transplants
- Pompano Beach, Florida – 27.33% of population are baby boomers; 3.07% of new transplants
- Clearwater, Florida – 28.35% of population are baby boomers; 3% of new transplants
- Fort Lauderdale, Florida – 27.01% of population are baby boomers; 2.75% of new transplants
- Gainesville, Florida – 15% of population are baby boomers; 2.75% of new transplants
- Palm Bay, Florida – 27.31% of population are baby boomers; 2.70% of new transplants

Did any Alabama cities make the list?
You will have to go all the way down to number 32 to find the first Alabama city on the list. Birmingham came in at No. 32 on the list of cities where baby boomers are moving. Baby boomers account for some 23% of the population in Birmingham where 2.15% of 2024 transplants fell in the demographic. Montgomery came in at No. 85; Huntsville at No. 147.
The data for the rankings came from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 1-year American Community Survey and included 267 cities with a population of 100,000 or more people.
